While I love this hot and cozy caramel-laced coffee drink just the way it is, there is still plenty of room for youu to customize it to your liking. If you do, Isigny Ste Mère brand is my favorite, followed closely by Natural by Nature and Cabot brands. I love the flavor of lightly sweetened freshly whipped cream, but you’re absolutely welcome to use store-bought squirt cans for convenience. Whipped Cream Topping - While this is optional, it does add a lot of richness and will make it closer to a Starbucks or Dunkin caramel macchiato.Caramel Sauce - Again, I usually make my own (you only need 3 ingredients!), but you’re welcome to use any grocery store version you prefer.Feel free to follow in my footsteps (a batch can keep in the fridge for 10 days or more), or use your favorite store-bought natural flavour syrup instead. Vanilla Syrup - I typically make my own vanilla syrup from scratch using equal parts water and sugar plus a vanilla bean.I suggest reaching for “Barista Blend” vegan milks for the best frothing capabilities. Note that lower fat dairy milks tend to make the strongest foam, and plant-based milks will vary based on the brand. Steamed Milk - Feel free to use skim, 1%, 2%, or whole milk, or swap in any plant-based milk that you like. You’re also welcome to use instant espresso pods if you don’t have an espresso maker.
